Following the release of their debut single “Heaven O Hell” in June, Malaysian punk rock band End23 are opening a new chapter in their musical journey with the release of their debut EP, A New Chapter.

To mark the occasion, End23 hosted their EP Release Party at BeKL, Kuala Lumpur, on 15 August 2026, bringing together fans, fellow musicians and members of the local independent music community for a night celebrating the band’s latest milestone.

The title A New Chapter reflects End23’s journey as a newly formed band with members coming from diverse musical backgrounds, including pipe bands, punk rock, metal and alternative music. Drawing from these different influences, the band has developed a distinctive sound of their own.

One of End23’s defining features is their use of Scottish bagpipes within a punk rock setting, with three bagpipe players as part of the band’s full line-up. The group also features vocalists, twin guitarists, a five-string bassist and a drummer.

For the EP release show, End23 performed a setlist featuring tracks from A New Chapter alongside songs that have become part of the band’s musical journey. The set included “Itchy Bop's Finger”, “Heaven O Hell”, “Leave Her Johnny”, “Tonight”, “Due West”, “Mohican”, “Palestina”, “Dunia Belum Berakhir” and “A New Chapter”.

The band’s debut single, “Heaven O Hell”, was released on 9 June 2026, introducing listeners to End23’s distinctive combination of energetic punk rock, bagpipe melodies and emotionally driven songwriting. The track explores themes of love, loss and the difficult process of letting go of someone once deeply loved.

End23’s journey began with their debut performance in Bali, Indonesia, in April 2026. Since then, the band have continued to perform, create music and build their presence within the independent music scene. Their debut performance also featured a cover of “Due West” by The Real McKenzies.

The band later received a response from The Real McKenzies on social media after End23 shared their cover, giving the emerging Malaysian band an encouraging nod as they continue developing their own musical identity.

Seven Bands, One Stage

The End23 EP Release Party also brought together six other acts from the local independent music scene:

⚡ 302

⚡ Idle Hands

⚡ The Eccentric

⚡ Ruckyard

⚡ The Mondz

⚡ Northvein

⚡ END23

With a diverse line-up of performers, the event served not only as a celebration of End23’s debut EP, but also as a meeting point for musicians, fans and members of the independent music community.

For End23, A New Chapter represents more than simply a collection of songs. It documents the early stages of the band’s journey from experimenting with bagpipes and punk rock, to making their first appearance in Bali, releasing their debut single and gradually establishing their identity on the Malaysian music circuit.

The decision to close the night with “A New Chapter” also carried a symbolic meaning. While the release marks the end of one stage of End23’s journey, it also signals the beginning of something new.

With seven bands sharing the stage and End23 bringing their distinctive blend of punk rock and bagpipes to the forefront, the EP release party marked another significant milestone for the young band.

For End23, this is more than the release of a debut EP.

This is the beginning of a new chapter.
